Going Overtown

Overtown was a major black cultural center in Miami, home to a dense social and musical life often described as the Harlem of the South. Built by communities long confined under segregation and later deeply damaged by forced urban renewal and expressway construction, it forms the historical ground of Going Overtown, a photographic passage moving between portrait, street, and domestic space.
